People coping with stress, pain and illness are especially welcome.

| •
| |

| •
| |
Learn why mindfulness practices are being studied and recommended by health professionals to help reduce harmful effects from the stress that seems so inevitable in today’s world. |
About the presenter:
David Spound, M.Ed., first learned meditation as a teenager, and over the years he has studied with teachers from a variety of meditative and contemplative traditions. David began mindfulness practice while searching for relief from debilitating back pain that had intensified over several years.
As a participant in the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, David experienced a dramatic reduction in pain and a corresponding improvement in overall wellness. Inspired by his experience and his interactions with other participants, he enrolled in teacher training at UMass Medical School's Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society, a department co-founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., developer of MBSR.
David founded Valley Mindfulness (www.valleymindfulness.com) and currently offers local mindfulness-based health programs. David is also a teacher of MBSR and staff member at the Center for Mindfulness at UMass Medical School in Worcester.

Foot Reflexology
Reflexology is a natural system of healing which traces its roots back to ancient China and Egypt. It is based on the theory that there are reflex points in the soles of our feet that relate to the entire body. Through the 7,200 nerve endings in our feet and the energy pathways known in Chinese medicine, Reflexology transmits a healing message throughout the body, establishing a flow of vital energy and a connection to the earth we walk on which is essential to a balanced and healthy life.
In this presentation Anya will give an overview of Reflexology and present ways to enhance your dental wellness with tools to target the teeth, neck and head reflexes on your feet. Not only can this improve overall health but can also assist with pain management and temporomandibular dysfunction. In addition, you will learn how Reflexology can help you relax, release stress, muscular holding patterns, daily tensions and create optimal health.
Anya Hricko is the founder/director of the Pioneer Valley Reflexology offering private sessions, workshops and Professional Reflexology training. Anya was on the leading edge of Reflexology receiving Certification in the early 1970’s. She is a Master Reflexologist who has been featured on radio, TV and in several publications. Therapeutic Essential Oils For Physical and Emotional Harmony
Calm your nerves, vanquish a migraine, breathe easier, focus better, sleep more deeply, sounds lovely, doesn't it?
Our sense of smell is the most primal way we take in the world, and our nose is the only sense organ wired directly to our brain. So what does this mean? Amazingly, we humans have the capability to distinguish over 10,000 different scents through the cilia (fine hairs lining the nose) which activate olfactory nerve cells in the nasal cavity, sending impulses to the limbic brain. The limbic brain is directly connected to the systems of our body that control the heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress level and hormone balance as well as our moods, emotions and learning. The good news is that our stored traumas and fears, as well as stored physical pain, can be more easily accessed and released by fragrance, the way the smell of cookies baking calms many people down.
Essential Oils have been proven effective to gently shift Dental Anxiety and other stressors such as ADD, anxiety and depression. It can be that simple! Come play with fragrance for an hour and hear how our most primal sense affects our entire being. Bring your body aches and stress and leave them at the door!
Jessica Waters, Licensed Spiritual Healer and Certified Raindrop Practitioner will show you how to harness the potency of therapeutic grade essential oils for physical and emotional harmony.

Overcoming Dental Anxiety
Dental anxiety is not unusual and can be severely limiting. In many instances EMDR can lessen or eliminate the anxiety. If you struggle with “fear of the dentist” this workshop could start you on the path to dental happiness.
About Ross Hackerson
Ross W. Hackerson, MA is a licensed Family Therapist with 40 plus years experience; he is an EMDRIA crtified EMDR therapist with six years of EMDR work. He is also a certified Rolfer with years of bodywork exerience. Of particular relevance to this workshop is a dental anxiety/trauma of his own that he resolved with EMDR.
About EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)1 is a comprehensive, integrative psychotherapy approach. It contains elements of many effective psychotherapies.
EMDR is an information processing therapy and uses an eight phase approach to address the experiential contributors of a wide range of pathologies. It attends to the past experiences that have set the groundwork for pathology, the current situations that trigger dysfunctional emotions, beliefs and sensations, and the positive experience needed to enhance future adaptive behaviors and mental health.
During treatment various procedures and protocols are used to address the entire clinical picture. One of the procedural elements is "dual stimulation" using either bilateral eye movements, tones or taps. During the reprocessing phases the client attends momentarily to past memories, present triggers, or anticipated future experiences while simultaneously focusing on a set of external stimulus. During that time, clients generally experience the emergence of insight, changes in memories, or new associations. The clinician assists the client to focus on appropriate material before initiation of each subsequent set.
EMDR is one of only three methods recommended for treatment of terror victims. In the Practice Guidelines of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, EMDR was listed as an efficacious treatment for PTSD. EMDR has been successfully applied to reduce dental anxiety and the stress associated with dental treatment.
