Sharing Smiles community care program

Do you know someone who deserves a Strong & Healthy Smile?
We are now accepting nominations for “Sharing Smiles,” our community care program for supporting dental wellness in the Pioneer Valley from November 23 to December 19, 2016.
We are so thankful to our community for their support in voting us The Advocate “Best Dentist” in the Valley many times, and want to thank our patients for making 2016 a wonderful year at Strong & Healthy Smiles. We are continually improving our practice to make our patients feel comfortable, happy, and healthy. This year, we have made special efforts to strengthen our bonds with our community and to reach out to those who have not been able to access our quality of care.

We invite you to become a part of our Sharing Smiles community care program, and nominate someone you know for a Strong & Healthy Smile.
As you know, dental care is an incredibly important part of whole body wellness, and if left untreated can lead to more serious consequences. We are looking for nominations of people who contribute to our greater community, who wish to improve their dental health, and are currently limited by their financial circumstances from receiving dental preventive care.

If you know someone who could benefit from a Strong & Healthy Smile, please nominate them by writing a one page letter explaining why the person you are nominating deserves a year of free dental care and how that person contributed to the community. Email nominations to shsinfo@strongandhealthysmiles.com. For more information about the program, call (413) 586-9363. We hope to find candidates for this program who would be willing to share their story. The office will be accepting nominations through December 19, 2016.

We will be sponsoring Sharing Smiles as a way to contribute our services free of charge in the spirit of the holiday season. We are also interested in reaching out to local businesses to see if they would be interested in Sponsoring a Smile. If you know a business that would like to contribute to giving someone a new smile, we would love to discuss the possibilities with you!
We want to wish you a happy and safe holiday season with your family and friends and best wishes in the New Year.

Education and Dental Experience
Dr. Sue graduated cum laude from Harvard University. She earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine in Farmington, Connecticut. During her residency at Hartford Hospital, she served as a member of the oral and maxillofacial surgery trauma team. Dr. Sue received advanced training with the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS) to safely provide comfortable care to patients with dental anxiety. She did extensive post-doctoral education with Dr. John Kois Center in Tacoma and Seattle, Washington, and has attended hundreds of hours of continuing education. Dr. Sue established her practice in Greenfield in 1995, and relocated her practice to Florence in 2007 to better serve her patients with unique needs for comfortable dental care. Her Vision for Strong & Healthy Smiles

We improve the quality of lives in the Pioneer Valley through our caring service, our comfortable and high-quality treatment, and by empowering people to improve their dental wellness and self-care.

Although the majority of her practice is adults, she is passionate about preventing the oral disease that she corrects on her adult patients daily and preventing the negative dental experiences that can come from early childhood cavities. Her Cavity Management Program and Periodontal Management Program are uniquely designed to empower her patients to improve their dental health for the long run.

Personal Life

Originally from the Erie, PA area, Dr. Sue has lived at Deerfield Academy since 1993, where her husband Sean teaches math and coaches the girls’ varsity ice hockey team. She is the proud mom of daughter Hunter and son Avery. The Keller family includes a menagerie of pets: four cats, a guinea pig, a turtle, a tarantula, and two fish.

Dr. Sue is well-known in local communities. She is an active member of the Northampton Chamber of Commerce, and serves on the boards of the Center School in Greenfield and as treasurer for Snow Farm art workshops in Williamsburg. A musician since childhood, she played classical double bass (and a little jazz) and marching band trumpet for many years. More recently, she has expanded her talents to singing in local church choirs and belongs to the 11-woman a cappella group, High Definition, at the Northampton Community Music Center

She enjoys riding horses on the trails with her daughter, and riding her motorcycle with her son, attending live theatre, and supporting local businesses.

Why Dr. Sue Became a Dentist

As a child, Dr. Sue Keller had a sweet tooth and several cavities at a young age. When she first went to the dentist, she was offered laughing gas, which felt fun and “floaty,” a comfortable injection, interesting tools to look at, and two prizes for being so cooperative during the treatment. She couldn’t wait to go back and couldn’t understand why other people didn’t like going to the dentist. She knew that it could be a comfortable experience! Later, with crooked and crowded teeth, and the economy in the recession, she wasn’t sure whether her family could afford braces for her. When her dad worked extra jobs to pay for orthodontics, Dr. Sue learned first-hand the value of a beautiful smile and the confidence she gained from being able to smile without a hand covering her crooked teeth. She became a dentist to provide the life-changing experience of a strong & healthy smile to her patients. She loves to share with her community the knowledge and skills needed for anyone to have dental wellness for a lifetime.

Our latest version is Schick 33, and we love offering you treatment that is more comfortable and accurate. This machine allows us to see the results immediately and helps us better visualize problems and catch them while they are smaller and easier to correct. Our digital X-ray system immediately sends the images of your smile to Dr. Sue’s computer and allows her to easily evaluate and diagnose any problems. This also provides us the opportunity to compare the most recent image to images from the past, which gives Dr. Sue the chance to compare your stages of health. The digital X-ray also allows us to send the results to any other healthcare professionals as needed, such as oral surgeons, orthodontists, or periodontists.

NIGHT GUARDS

We provide 2 styles of night guards for our patients who grind or clench their teeth while they sleep. This helps to keep your teeth healthy and strong, preventing the damage that can be caused by clenching or grinding. These guards are custom-made oral appliances that are worn over your teeth throughout the night. This will prevent your teeth from grinding together and wearing each other down. Ask Dr. Sue Keller which night guard would be best for you, the traditional horse-shoe shape for extra strength or the small and well-tolerated NTI!

When you get your night guard, you need to be sure to take good care of it. This includes rinsing it in cold water and mouth rinse before and after each use, occasionally cleaning it in cool, soapy water and rinsing it thoroughly, keeping the night guard in a container to keep it from getting dirty and lost, protecting your night guard from extremely hot or cold temperatures. Bring it to your hygiene visits so that we can clean it and check the strength and any wear on the night guard.

Are you interested in taking care of your teeth at night with a night guard? If so, call us at Strong & Healthy Smiles by Dr. Sue Keller today. We are happy to help you!

LASER ASSISTED DENTISTRY

In order to serve our patients with more comfort, Dr. Sue Keller is pleased to offer laser dentistry! We use two types of lasers to provide you with more excellent service: the Biolase EPICX™ and the Biolase WaterLase iPlus™

Our EPICX diode laser is used for Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT). This laser is uses near infrared frequencies to treat temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, accelerate the healing of surgical areas, and to perform laser whitening. The EPICX laser can also be used for soft tissue surgeries.

Our WaterLase iPlus can be used for hard tissue (enamel, dentin, bone) and soft tissue (gum) procedures. This Er,Cr: YSGG laser is designed to repair decayed or damaged teeth, treat gum inflammation, overgrowth, and manage the soft tissues in the mouth. The WaterLase is used to accomplish many things, including:

The WaterLase has many advantages. It provides greater patient comfort because the combination of laser energy and a water spray means less trauma to the teeth and gums. In many cases, no anesthetic is needed to remove decay. There will be a sensation, but it won’t be uncomfortable. This laser allows Dr. Sue to more efficiently to remove decay, overgrown or infected gum tissue. We can also perform several simple dental treatments in one visit, saving you time. The WaterLase can remove decay more precisely than a drill. This will save more of your healthy tooth structure and improve the health of your smile.

WHITE COMPOSITE BONDED FILLINGS

Dr. Sue Keller offers white composite bonded fillings to treat cavities and to replace old amalgam (silver, black) fillings that you might not want.

White fillings are a great choice for repairing cavities, as well as other types of damage to your teeth. Unlike amalgam fillings, which contain mercury that may be harmful to your health, composite fillings are made of a composite resin material. We are able to match the shade of the resin to your natural tooth color for a filling that beautifully blends in with your smile’s appearance. In addition, the composite resin bonds with your tooth structure to strengthen it and protect it from fracturing and other types of damage in the future. White composite bonded fillings can be used to treat cavities, as well as to repair teeth that are chipped, cracked, or otherwise damaged.

Are you interested in learning more about the advantages of white composite fillings? Call Strong & Healthy Smiles by Dr. Sue Keller today and set up an appointment with our friendly team!

SMILE SHARES

Created for:
Individuals, households, families, and small businesses that do not have dental insurance.

At Strong & Healthy Smiles by Dr. Sue Keller, we experience the same frustrations with dental insurance that you do. Dental “insurance” policies are never as good as they’re cracked up to be: they are expensive, complex, bureaucratic, and place seemingly random limits on care that is in your best interest. If you change your job, your insurance could change, or you could even lose your insurance coverage.

Many small businesses and individuals can’t afford to pay the monthly premiums for dental insurance. If you don’t have dental insurance, you may put off getting essential care. If you do have dental insurance, you are limited to a minimal amount of care (same amount as in 1960 when dental insurance was first introduced) that does not take your unique needs into consideration. We want our patients to get the preventive care and treatment they need, so we created our innovative solution to the dental insurance problem: Smile Shares dental prevention memberships.

Get started today by contacting us today!

Local businesses:
Do you know a local business which would like to improve the dental wellness of its employees, without the costs and limitations of old-fashioned dental insurance? Paying for part or all of their employees’ Smile Shares plan is a great way to foster better dental health and empower their employees to take the first steps to a strong & healthy smile. Beyond Smile Shares, Dr. Sue Keller is available to consult with your company regarding dental wellness and support options such as direct reimbursement for care. Direct reimbursement is an easy way of saving the company money, improving the benefit to employees, and preserving your employees’ ability to choose the provider that best meets their needs.
